Evansville Walmart has seen a fatal active shooter incident.
EVANSVILLE, IN – As of today, On Thursday night, a lone gunman opened fire inside a Walmart in Evansville, Indiana, shooting at least one customer before being taken down by responding officers.
At 9:59 p.m., calls about a possible active shooter were received at the Walmart located on South Red Bank Road, and the police arrived there almost immediately.
As soon as authorities were able to make their way inside the business, the man engaged in a firefight with police across the entirety of the store. The individual was neutralized by police fire and has since passed away due to his injuries. The shooting did not injure any of the police officers.
There were many instances in which he fired his weapon at law enforcement personnel before they could shoot him. Outside of the Walmart on Thursday, a Sergeant with the Evansville Police Department named Anna Gray stated that “At this moment, we do not know how many more persons he shot at.”
According to the Evansville Police Department, the lone victim was transported to the hospital, and it is currently unknown what their condition is.
The investigation into the incident continues, and the police are looking into possible additional casualties. Sgt. Gray requests that anyone who may have been hurt or may have information about the incident get in touch with the police as soon as possible.
The identification of the suspect has not been made public by the police at this time. There was no apparent reason for the attack that was discovered right away. The investigation is still taking on at this time.
