Posted on January 3, 2023

According to reports from numerous agencies in Pennsylvania, Brackenridge Police Chief Justin McIntire was the victim of a fatal shooting on Monday afternoon.

After a lengthy search that spanned the entirety of Allegheny County and took place over several hours, a police officer from Tarentum was also shot and injured in Brackenridge.

Allegheny County Police Superintendent Christopher Kearns stated in a Monday evening briefing that a double shooting suspect was shot and killed by Pittsburgh police around 7 p.m. near Brushton Avenue and Mohler Street intersection. The incident occurred near the intersection of Brushton Avenue and Mohler Street.

In a previous briefing, Kearns stated that authorities contacted a wanted person in the Brackenridge-Tarentum region at approximately 2:00 p.m.

The suspect was pursued on foot by the police for several hours inside the general area.

At approximately 4:15 p.m., a Brackenridge police officer located in the 800 block of Third Street contacted the subject.

According to Kearns, after this foot chase, there were two shootings; the first occurred when the suspect was encountered on Third Street, and the second took place several blocks away on Brackenridge Avenue.

McIntire was shot and passed away at the scene of the incident.

Another law enforcement officer was struck by gunfire in the leg and transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

The status of the second officer has just improved to a stable state.

According to Allegheny County dispatch, the initial response was made by emergency personnel in the vicinity of Brackenridge Avenue and Morgan Street, which is close to Tomson Scrap Metal.

When investigating the area around Prospect Street and 6th Avenue in Pittsburgh, the Action News 4 crew came across a SWAT unit.

In connection with the incident, according to Kearns, the police are looking for Aaron Lamont Swan, who is 28 years old and from Duquesne.

According to Kearns, Swan escaped the shooting scene in a vehicle taken from somewhere on Pacific Avenue.

Kearns claims that the suspect and the stolen vehicle were discovered in the Lincoln neighborhood of Pittsburgh. [citation needed]

After the police discovered the vehicle in question and made an attempt to bring it to a stop, a pursuit followed.

It is said that Swan caused the accident, jumped out of the automobile and rushed into the neighboring forested area.

It is reported that the man opened fire on officers when he was attempting to flee from the wooded area.

Officers fired back, hitting Swan, who died at the crime scene from his wounds.

In response to the incident, several of Brackenridge’s roads were closed.

In addition, several neighboring departments had dispatched police units.

According to Kearns, the Allegheny County Police are continuing their investigation, but they do not feel any danger to the general public.
