Franco Frattini, who served as Italy’s foreign minister twice in a row and held several other positions in government, died on Saturday evening at the age of 65, according to official statements released by the Italian government and confirmed by several media sources.
Frattini’s Cause of Death
Frattini died in a Rome hospital after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Before being appointed as a former minister, he previously served as foreign affairs minister in the government of former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi from 2002 to 2004.
He also served as European deputy commissioner for justice from 2004 to 2008, and before his death, he was president of Italy’s Council of State. This advisory body is responsible for overseeing public administrations in Italy.
Franco Frattini started his political journey as a member of the Socialist Party before joining Berlusconi’s center-right parties.
